The purpose of this site is to demonstrate the usage of Javascript and DHTML within a standard HTML document. I chose the Edgar Allan Poe.
In this site, I have included the following Javascript/DHTML features:
* HV Navigation Menu (a dropdown menu used in the navigation)
* Zeldman Style Switcher (located in the right column that allows the user to change the style of the page according to their desire)
* Live clock (located in the right column - This is a standard live clock that displays itself in a text area)
* Email spam blocker (within the email link in designer popup and in the footer)
* Today's date (located in the right column)
* Rotating Images (rotates images in every 5 seconds)
* Random Quotes (located in the right column. Hit F5 to refresh the page to reload another quote)
* Printer Friendly (located in the footer area. It only print the main content area, exluding the images/ banner)
* Add to Favorites (located in the footer area that allows the user to bookmark the page)
* Element Visible/ Hidden (a popup window when the "about the designer" clicked)
A scripting language developed by Netscape to enable Web authors to design interactive sites. Although it shares many of the features and structures of the full Java language, it was developed independently. Javascript can interact with HTML source code, enabling Web authors to spice up their sites with dynamic content. JavaScript is endorsed by a number of software companies and is an open language that anyone can use without purchasing a license. It is supported by recent browsers from Netscape and Microsoft, though Internet Explorer supports only a subset, which Microsoft calls Jscript.
The W3C does not have an official definition for it, but dynamic HTML combines HTML, style sheets, and scripts to make Web pages dynamic or interactive. DHTML has compatibility problems between browsers.
