- City of Leduc - Resident and Business Community Survey.
A telephone survey with a random and representative sample of City of Leduc residents as well as a self-complete mailback survey of local businesses were conducted to gather information regarding the City's current communication efforts.
- Alberta Trappers Association - Public Opinion Survey
To better understand public perceptions and attitudes toward trapping and trappers in Alberta, the Alberta Trappers Association commissioned Banister Research to conduct a public opinion survey to establish benchmark information.
- Alberta Law Reform Institute (ALRI) Public Consultation
Banister Research was commissioned to report on the findings of a public consultation paper and questionnaire distributed to the public. Data was entered, coded and analyzed and the results were presented to the ALRI.
- Alberta Motor Association Traffic Safety Study
A survey of 1,200 Alberta residents was undertaken to analyze traffic safety issues as well as evaluate self-reported driving behaviours. A comparative analysis was conducted with previous year's survey results.
- Alberta Municipal Affairs- Information Technology (IT) Satisfaction Survey
A satisfaction survey of management and non-management employees was conducted. The overall purpose of this study was to provide Alberta Municipal Affairs with a measurement of employee satisfaction based on the evaluation of specific IT services.
- Edmonton Airports Customer Satisfaction Survey
Banister Research has been conducting on-site customer satisfaction surveys for a three-year period. Intercept surveys are undertaken quarterly and include both passengers enplaning and deplaning, as well as pilots and ground staff. The data collection aspects of this ongoing project are challenging and require strong administrative and management skills.
- City of Edmonton Citizen Satisfaction Survey
Conducted a large-scale citizen satisfaction survey on behalf of the City of Edmonton. A total of 2,400 interviews were conducted with Edmontonians to assess their perceptions about quality of life and satisfaction with city services. Banister Research has repeated this project annually from 1998 to 2001.
- City of Edmonton Awareness and Perception Survey
Conducted the 1999 Awareness and Perception Survey on behalf of the City of Edmonton. This project involved a telephone survey of 2,400 residents to determine the level of understanding and awareness of various activities undertaken by the Community Services Department.
- City of Edmonton Attractions Satisfaction Survey
Conducted a customer satisfaction survey on behalf of the City of Edmonton Community Services Department. The primary purpose of this research was to provide each of the eight major attractions with performance measures based on an evaluation of specific determinants of customer satisfaction. A total of 3,200 on-site intercept surveys, as well as a random telephone survey of 400 Edmonton and area residents were conducted as part of this research.
- City of Edmonton Participation and Satisfaction Survey
On behalf of the City of Edmonton completed the 1999 Participation Survey. 2,400 area residents were contacted to determine the level of use of various activities offered by the Community Services Department. User and non-user characteristics, as well as satisfaction levels were measured as part of the overall purpose of the study.
- Norquest College Graduate Survey
Banister Research has assisted Norquest College to complete their survey of college graduates. This involved telephone follow-up with graduates to collect information on a range of topics including current employment status and wage rates.
- Hallmark Tubulars Ltd. Customer and Employee Satisfaction Survey
Banister Research conducted customer and employee satisfaction surveys. Both self-complete surveys were distribution through the company's internal mail system for the employees and the public mailing system for the customers. Findings encompassed communication, strategic direction, and managerial performance amongst others.
- Hunting For Tomorrow Foundation - Public Opinion Survey
This project involved a telephone survey of 900 Alberta residents to establish benchmark information of public perceptions and attitudes toward hunting and hunters in Alberta. Past and future hunting activities were measured as part of this project.
- Alberta Tobacco Reduction Alliance (ATRA)- Public Opinion Survey
A survey of 2,500 Albertans across five health regions was conducted to assess smoking habits and awareness of a television anti-smoking campaign.
- West Edmonton Mall Tenant Satisfaction Survey
Banister Research conducted a self-completion survey on behalf of the West Edmonton Mall Administration in order to assess tenant satisfaction with specific mall attributes.
- Travel Alberta International Client Satisfaction Survey
The overall purpose of this study was to provide Travel Alberta with a measurement of awareness and an evaluation of client satisfaction. Interviews were conducted with Travel Alberta clients in Europe, Japan, Germany and North America.

- Canadian Society of Chemical Engineers Member and Non-Member Survey - Customer Satisfaction Survey
A review was undertaken of the strategic plan of CST. The CSChE is an organization that represents the interests of chemical engineers. Through its programs and services, the CSChE offers opportunities for professional growth, career enhancement, and financial benefit. Feedback was collected, from multiple audiences, on the organization and the development of the marketing communications program through focus groups, in-person interviews, and in-depth telephone interviews to improve the services and benefits of membership in the organization and to test the reaction to a new organizational name, look and logo.
- Ascot Properties Resident Survey
Residents of Fort Saskatchewan and the surrounding area were surveyed in regards to the need for a condominium development. Telephone surveying was the methodology used.
- YMCA Enterprise Centre Course Feasibility Study
This project involved the collection of data from the general public in the Edmonton area to determine if an adequate market exists to make new fee paying programs and other potential programs viable and to establish what potential customers are willing to pay in tuition fees.
- Advanced Education and Career Development Alberta Adult Learning System Satisfaction Survey
This project involved the collection of 1,600 telephone surveys from the general public across the province to obtain a broad perspective of the adult learning system from both the public and the learner.
- Advanced Education and Career Development Apprenticeship Satisfaction Survey
This project involved 20,000 phone calls to complete 3,500 interviews with apprentices. The overall purpose of the research was to measure the satisfaction of currently enrolled and recently graduated apprentices. This project will provide a baseline of data against which future data will be compared to assess the impact of future changes to the apprenticeship and industry training system over the next few years.
- Advanced Education and Career Development Employer Satisfaction Survey
An Employer Satisfaction Survey was completed for AECD by surveying 800 companies and 1,500 graduates, with degrees and with diplomas. The Department used this information in their ongoing development of performance measurement. The employer survey provided a broad measure of employer satisfaction with public post-secondary education. Findings were also used to determine how satisfied employers were with the graduates, specifically in the academic / technical skills and non-subject attributes that graduates bring to the labour force.
- AltaLIS/Spatial Data Warehouse Survey
This project involved the surveying of current and potential users of topographic data across the province to assess market demand.
- Apprenticeship System Evaluation
This project involved telephone and mail-out surveys to a representative sample of apprentices registered for technical training between August 26, 1996 and January 31, 1997, in the evaluation of recent changes to apprenticeship financial assistance.
- The Family Centre Survey
A survey was conducted for the Family Centre to assess the awareness of the general public of their services as well as to provide the organization direction on future marketing activities.
- Domestic and Commercial Appliance Servicing Industry Training Survey
A survey, utilizing a variety of collection methods, of employers and employees in the domestic appliance service trade as well as the commercial appliance service sector was completed for the AECD. The purpose of the research was to assess the support and feasibility of amalgamating the Domestic Appliance Service Trade with the Commercial Service Sector. The findings were used to offer a balance of views from both sectors and provide answers for the industry.
- The Psychologist Association of Alberta Awareness Survey
A survey was conducted of the general public across Alberta to assess the perceptions of psychologists and the utilization of their services. This information was used to provide direction to the future of the organization.
- Strathcona County Resident Survey
In 1998, 2000 and 2001 conducted the Strathcona County Resident Satisfaction Survey. The purpose of this survey was to assess resident satisfaction with County services.
- City of Fort Saskatchewan Resident Survey
For two years, Banister Research has directed this survey on behalf of City of Fort Saskatchewan in order to assess resident perceptions and satisfaction with city services.
- Town of Devon Resident Satisfaction Survey
In 1999 and 2000, Banister Research has conducted community satisfaction surveys for the Town. The purpose of the survey was to evaluate resident satisfaction with town services and provide administration with information to be used for budgeting and service programming.
- Employment Alternatives Program Survey
This study for Advanced Education and Career Development involved the surveying of 138 contractors; 850 clients; 32 employers; and the analysis of 1,770 Family and Social Services records as part of the evaluation of the EAP in Alberta.
- Job Placement Survey
This study involved the surveying of over 500 Social Assistance recipients to assess the success of the job placement services received by Advanced Education and Career Development.
- Commonwealth Stadium Food Services Satisfaction Survey
For two years, Banister Research conducted a customer satisfaction survey on behalf of the food and beverage concessionaire. Surveys were conducted in-person and included a random sample of patrons at various events.
- City of Edmonton Wet/Dry Pilot Study
On behalf of the City's Waste Management Department, Linda Banister was responsible for the opinion surveying and public communications program for this pilot project. The pre-pilot study involved 1,000 telephone surveys in 5 Edmonton neighborhoods. The post-pilot study involved the mail out survey of 1,000 households, and a City-wide survey was conducted of over 500 households.
- Household Travel Survey- The City of Edmonton Transportation Master Plan (Solutions for the Future)
The City of Edmonton, as part of the Transportation Master Plan, undertook an extensive survey of households in the Edmonton region to determine the nature of current travel patterns. This information was used to assess the transportation needs for the City, and develop a long-term plan to meet those needs. Over a one month period, 6000 households in the Edmonton region participated in a survey which collected information about the household, the residents of the household, and travel information for each member of the household for a 24-hour period.
- City of Edmonton- Household Hazardous Waste Survey
A survey was conducted of households in the City of Edmonton to assess their knowledge of household hazardous waste, appropriate disposal methods and advertising methods to inform and educate the public.
- Other City of Edmonton waste management
Linda Banister has also been responsible for a number of other waste management surveys including Multi-Family Bin Recycling, Composting, and Bi-Weekly Collection. These projects involved a combination of telephone and mail-back surveys.
- St. Albert Winter Games Impact Study
This project involved the survey design, questionnaire development and survey implementation of Games participants as well as St. Albert businesses and residents. Over 500 surveys were completed using mail-back, telephone, and in-person surveys.
- U of A, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine Continuos Learning Market Analysis
The Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine has undertaken a market analysis to identify customer needs, suppliers and competitors. Banister Research assisted in the development of a realistic business plan to identify customer needs and to investigate the possibilities of cooperative continuing education opportunities between various service providers. Data was collected using telephone surveys and in-depth qualitative interviews with various stakeholders representative of the rehabilitation profession.
- Alberta Law Reform Institute (ALRI)
A focus group was held to discuss possible changes to the Alberta Rules of Curt which govern practice and procedure in civil actions in the Court of Queen's Bench and Court of Appeal.
- Trader Publications New Publication
Trader Publications in Edmonton is considering launching a new product. A focus group was held to gather insight on this product which will focus on the advertising of new vehicles.
- Canadian Tire Focus Group
A focus group was conducted to evaluate employee opinions and perspectives into declining sales and determining factors that may be influencing the market.
- Capital Health Smoking Policy Evaluation
A focus group was held with security and admitting staff from Capital Health and Caritas to canvass support for the current smoking policy and identify issues for the implementation of Phase II of the policy.
- City of Edmonton Performance Measurement Focus Groups
Several focus group sessions were conducted to determine residents' overall understanding of the City of Edmonton corporate performance measures. In particular, investigation into residents' comprehension of the goals and associated performance measures as well as the importance placed on each goal/measure was examined.
- City of Edmonton Residential Satisfaction and Budget Focus Groups
Seven focus groups were conducted with City of Edmonton residents. Findings were used to measure citizen satisfaction and to identify service issues facing the City. This information was also used to provide the City of Edmonton with citizen input to assist administration in preparing business plans and budget strategies for the following year.

- University of Alberta, The Canadian Circumpolar Institute Strategic for Sustainable Health Care in Eastern Siberia
This two year joint project was an initiative between the Canadian Circumpolar Institute at the University of Alberta, Canada, and the Administration of the Evenki Autonomous District, Russia. The intent was to use the expertise of indigenous health professionals working in comparable settlements in the Canadian North to help Evenki and Sakha health care workers build a sustainable health care system in rural settlements and apply appropriate strategies from Siberia to the Canadian North. Banister Research was responsible for the administration of the project.

- AltaLIS / Spatial Data Warehouse
The purpose of the project is to measure market demand and identify user needs for current, accurate, accessible, and affordable topographic mapping data. Market data collected in this study was used to determine the feasibility of the current joint venture business model to fulfill the needs of Alberta users.
- Child Welfare Trainee Program Evaluation
Five focus groups were conducted with different staff populations to assess whether or not each region was reaching its goals and objectives with respect to the Child Welfare Trainee Program.
- Human Resource Development Canada Team Based Management Evaluation
An evaluation was conducted of five groups operating in the province which had taken part in the team training through the Centre for Learning.
- Neegan Awas'sak Child and Family Services Authority
The purpose of the study is to undertake a needs assessment of services and supports available to children and families in the Neegan Awas'sak Region #15, and focuses on assessing the current mental health services available in the region; how the services are currently accessed; the gaps in services; and recommendations to improve the access and availability of services.
- Teaming Up Against Tobacco - Health Canada
An evaluation of the "Teaming Up Against Tobacco" program which focuses on reducing or eliminating smoking behaviour in all grade 6 students in the City of Edmonton. The evaluation will allow the Health Promotions and Programs Branch to measure the effectiveness of the campaign in the short term, and to identify the most effective elements of the campaign thus facilitating the growth and transfer of the program to the entire Capital Region.

Erik Benke
Erik is our most recent addition to the Banister Team. He possess a wealth of experience in management of daily data collection activities in data verification, sample selection, programming, data verification and data analysis. Erik manages our 45 survey staff and oversees the Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing system. He is also directly responsible for supervising the data coding and generation of detailed data.
Edmontonians Magazine Poll Station
Banister Research conducts a monthly poll for the Edmontonians magazine. Edmontonians is a local publication which profiles people, places and events in the capital region. The Poll Station surveys 100 local residents or business people regarding a variety of interesting topics. While the results of the research are not statistically reliable, they do provide a qualitative indication of what people are thinking. Each month, the Banister Research website is updated to include the new Poll Station results.
